We’ve had a fantastic day today. We started off by arriving at school in our own clothing choice before some of us had spots painted on our faces. We purchased Pudsey Bracelets and took part in some related activities. We raised lots of money for the charity and even got to present the cheque to the real Pudsey Bear at the end of the day!

Christmas is fast approaching and today your child came home with a red or green letter in their book bag.

Dear Parents and Carers,

On Wednesday 6th December and Thursday 7th December the Acorn Class Unit will be taking part in the Christingle Church service. Acorn class act out the nativity scene and form a tableau at the altar. The class will be split by Red and Green Acorns and your child

_______________________will be taking part as _________________ on:

Green Acorns – Wednesday 6th December

Red Acorns – Thursday 7th December

The service starts at 6pm and children will need to be at church by 5.30pm in their school uniform ready to get dressed into their  nativity costumes (provided by school unless you have a previously agreed suitable costume which you would like them to wear).

Parents are welcome and encouraged to stay to watch in church. This is a wonderful celebration at an important time of year, that the whole school takes part in. It is a special service that will be   remembered by both parents and children.

If you have any further questions regarding this please come and see any of us.

Kind regards,

EYFS Team

Remembrance

This week we have found out why we commemorate Remembrance Day. We have done lots of poppy based activities which are displayed in our Learning Journey Floor Books. Our apple printed poppies were added to wreathes which we laid at the Cenotaph at St. John’s Church. We held a two minutes silence whilst we thought about the soldiers who have given their lives for our freedom.

In the afternoon we invited our families and our community into school for refreshments, prayers and songs. Each class took part and we really enjoyed singing ‘Daisy, Daisy!’

As always we plan for the children’s interests and next steps in learning. When talking about our Bonfire Night experiences – Jack asked for a Bonfire at school, Nia-Marie wanted to know how we make fire and why we need wood and Carmi and Lewis asked if we could cook marshmallows!

So, of course, we built a fire and toasted marshmallows:

Acorn Class Unit Talking Homework 26.10.17

Our topic next half term will be ‘Let’s Celebrate!’

Please could you spend some time talking with your child about your family celebrations. This will help with their confidence when talking with the whole class and provide them with discussion ideas. There is no need to produce anything for this homework but if your child feels inspired during the topic they are more than welcome to bring things in!

Thank you in advance for your cooperation,

EYFS Team

We held the grand opening of our new running track on Wednesday.

Even when our legs were tired we never gave up! It was a great afternoon and it was lovely to see so many parents turn up to celebrate our achievements. We received a certificate which recorded how many laps we completed so that we can start to collect our sponsorship money.

After sharing the story ‘Stone Soup’ and completing lots of related activities, we decided to make our very own! We washed, peeled and chopped all the vegetables. Some children even brought in their own to add to the mix. We really enjoyed sharing our very own soup!

As part of our learning on growth and change, we were very lucky to have a visitor yesterday. Baby Theo was only 6 days old when we got to meet him and ask his mum questions. He didn’t cry or even wake up!

Our questioning skills improved throughout the visit and we learnt a lot about babies.

Thank you Mrs Nicks and baby Theo!

Did you see us? Did you hear us?

We went on a local walk to look at the house and find 2D shapes.

You could test us when we are out and about, or even at home. Can we identify shapes? Can we name shapes? Can we talk about shapes?
